Samvatsari - The Seeking of Forgiveness!

On Samvatsari, as we repent, let us also resolve to use the divine key of pratikraman in our everyday lives.

15 September 2023

On the holy day of Samvatsari, the last day of Paryushan Parva, everyone repents for the hurt and mistakes they made throughout the year. We reflect back on the arguments and disagreements (unintentional or intentional) we have had and how they have left us feeling unhappy. In some instances, we perhaps regret how the relationship has been left irreconcilable.

However, the reality is that irrespective of the severity of the nature of the disagreement, there is a divine key which we can use daily. This will ensure we overcome our disagreements and in fact, restore our relationship to one of harmony.

This key is pratikraman (asking for forgiveness)! By using this master key one can erase the mistakes in our lives and restore harmonious relationships. This ultimately leads to happiness in our lives. Pratikraman is to ask for forgiveness from the pure Soul residing within each and every living being, whom we have hurt, and resolve never to repeat this mistake again.

Thus, on Samvatsari, as we repent, let us also resolve to use the divine key of pratikraman in our everyday lives. Every time we make a mistake, we utilise its power. In so doing we live happier lives and make a positive stride towards moksha.
