As we come to the end of 2021, we naturally reflect back on the year filled with mixed emotions, reliving the highs and lows experienced. For many of us, the year will have been especially challenging, making it difficult to move on from the incidents that occurred in 2021, despite wanting to seize the opportunity in the coming year.
Not being able to let go of the past lies in the lack of understanding of why circumstances happen. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an Enlightened being and founder of Akram Vignan, a spiritual science, says, “People believe that karma is the external activities people do like eating, sleeping, hitting someone etc. People label all actions as karma. But in reality, the activity they see is really the fruit of karma and not the actual karma itself.”
Therefore, when we have experienced a setback such as a financial loss or failing an exam or experienced a financial gain or successfully passed an exam, these occurred as a result of the karma we had sowed in our previous life. Understanding that the incidents experienced now are fruits of causes created in our previous life, brings acceptance of the incident and stops us from dwelling on it for longer than necessary.
Crucially, we start appreciating and being grateful for all that we have now and importantly we focus on creating a positive intent throughout our lives: by making a steadfast commitment to not hurt any living being by thought, speech or deed in this life.
As we say farewell to 2021, let us accept what has occurred by setting the right understanding about the fruits of karma, and move on. Let us embrace 2022 with an emboldened resolution to live our lives with love and seek to not hurt any living being.
